World Menstrual Hygiene Day is observed on May 28 of every month. According to UNFPA, May 28 signifies the menstrual cycle of females. The world comes together on this day to create awareness about menstruation, provide safe and hygienic practices to girls and eradicate persisting taboos and stigma.
This year, the theme for World Menstrual Hygiene Day is “making menstruation a normal fact of life by 2030”.
SWAG Initiative visited the Tasha community, Abuja to commemorate the World Menstrual Hygiene Day on the 30th of May 2022.
· Menstruation should be discussed freely.
· We are not ashamed of our period
· End Period Poverty
We ended the sensitization by sharing sanitary towels with the women and girls in attendance which was handled by Sadiya Ochekliye with the help of some team members. While that was happening, pictures of the girls and women with the sanitary towel and also with the SWAG Team were taken. They were all so happy we came and thanked us for coming.
