Project Detail

The Data Made Simple project effectively engaged young advocates in Nigeria to analyze and interpret data related to adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health (AYSRH). The project utilized existing data from the National Health Management Information System (NHMIS) and provided training to stakeholders on how to use the data for decision-making purposes. Additionally, storybooks focusing on AYSRH were created and distributed to policymakers, family planning service providers, and community leaders. Through outreach and dissemination sessions, community members, service providers, and religious leaders were reached, resulting in enhanced knowledge about AYSRH and improved access to comprehensive contraception care and education.

In 2022, SWAG Initiative successfully expanded the reach of the Data Made Simple Project to twelve states in Nigeria, engaging youth advocates to interpret and present statistics pertaining to sexual and reproductive health that are specifically relevant to adolescents. These advocates, selected from state working groups, received training on utilizing the data to inform decision-making. Moreover, the project distributed 7,000 storybooks on AYSRH and conducted outreach sessions that reached 5,250 community members, family planning service providers, and religious leaders. As a result, targeted stakeholders reported an improved understanding of AYSRH, with 3,150 individuals indicating improved knowledge. This has led to an overall improvement in access to comprehensive contraception care and education among the targeted stakeholders.

Goal:

  • Promote the utilization of Adolescent Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health data for decision-making in order to facilitate young people’s access to sexual and reproductive health information and services, as well as ensure the provision of quality information and services in Nigeria.

Objectives:

  • Encourage meaningful participation of young people in using data for decision-making.
  • Enhance the capacity of Youth Data Advocates and M&E officers in utilizing data for decision-making.
  • Present AYSRH data in a simple, engaging, and responsive format that is easily understood for decision-making purposes.
